Currently, the Russian command’s main goal is to gain control of Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia.
On Friday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that its country’s armed forces took control of the town of Yurievka, located near Niu York, in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

Previously, the General Staff of Ukraine had repeatedly acknowledged that the situation in this direction of the front is one of the most tense for its armed forces.
So far this week, in that direction, the Ukrainian armed forces have lost 2,215 soldiers, 11 armored combat vehicles, 26 cars, and 27 field artillery guns, according to data from the Russian Defense Ministry.
The settlement of Niu York was founded by Mennonites invited to Russia by Empress Catherine II and was called that until October 1951. On July 1, 2021, the Supreme Rada of Ukraine changed the name from Novgorodskoye to Niu York, restoring its historical name.
Russian forces are maintaining pressure along the entire Ukrainian front and are slowly advancing in several sectors despite the resistance of the Ukrainian Army. In recent days, Russian troops have also made other advances and liberated the town of Urozhainoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
On Thursday, Ukrainian authorities confirmed the withdrawal of their forces from Urozhainoye, located in the Donetsk area, and announced their withdrawal from the town of Krinki, the only one they had temporarily recovered on the Dnipro River’s left bank in the southern Kherson region.
Currently, the Russian command’s main goal is to gain control of Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia, the regions that joined the Federation in 2022. It also seeks to establish a security zone along the northern border of Ukraine, especially in the Kharkiv region, to reduce Ukrainian attacks against Russian border cities.
